Infinity Beatdown (But with Lucius) Postmortem
It's Sawyer's fault!
The answer is no Sawyer. I tested it, and the jam runner disqualified it and called me a dirty cheater. Thanks so much for the idea!
In all seriousness, Infinity Beatdown was the pinnacle of my development career, and I am shocked and horrified that it was almost a full two years ago that I made it! You may have heard it said that to look back at your previous work and cringe is a sign of growth. When I recently replayed Infinity Beatdown, I wondered how in the world I managed to make something so amazing. I'm pretty sure this is a sign of negative growth, and just underscores how tough its been for me these past few years to be a real developer. For this reason, I wanted to relive my best dev days, so I deleted Michelle and Reid and shoved in Lucius and Harold because I want everyone to play and experience that one time I did something fun with a battle system that was kind of creative.
It didn't take too long, maybe 2 hours, to replace everything. I did have to rush through a playthrough or two to spot things I missed (I did miss things). Unfortunately, I didn't use the text codes for the character names, so I had to replace them manually by combing through events, which was a slog, but not hard. Next time I'm definitely using text codes. You never know what project I'll want to artificially shove a Harold or Lucius into.
I also had fun recording Lucius' voice. I really do think my wife did an amazing job voicing Michelle in the original, and I don't think I matched it, but it got the job done.
Lastly, sexy beatboxing Lucius would have been awesome in this game, but unfortunately since it is a Dragonbones battler, it would have taken me way too long to adjust stuff.
I hope some people enjoyed this disqualified joke entry!
